This January snow/ice storm in Seattle - Tacoma has really left a mark on the landscape! My plants have taken a beating and this morning my Styrax japonicus (Japanese Snowbell) was leaning all the way to the ground. I shook as much ice as I could off of it and got it standing back up, thank goodness! It's probably a good idea to go out and check your plants too, and shake off the ice before any stems or twigs break. This ice storm also left my landscape with some unexpected surprises. I have a couple pictures of some interesting ice sculptures created by the melting snow.
My frozen Helictotrichon sempervirens 'Saphirsprudel' (Blue Oat Grass) has created a beautiful, spiky ice sculpture.
